More Description

A modern day interpretation of The Parable of The Ten Virgins as found in Matthew, Chapter 25:1-13. It portrays distractions that can prevent us from filling our lamps with the oil of conversion: Judging, Noise, Extreme, Materialism, and Pride. It also portrays values young women are taught through the Gospel of Jesus Christ that help us carefully fill our lamps drop by drop: Divine Nature, Individual Worth and Knowledge, Good works, Choice and Accountability, Integrity, Faith & Virtue.

As daughters of Heavenly Father we are meant to shine. We are not ordinary. We are brilliant, beautiful and powerful. May this artwork be a reminder of the distractions and values of our time and remind us that today is the day to prepare.

“Wherefore, be faithful, praying always, having your lamps trimmed and burning, and oil with you, that you may be ready at the coming of the Bridegroom.” (D&C 33:17) Choose You This Day.

Materialism

Materialism seeks after wealth and luxury.
Her heart is filled with the love of money and the need of possessions.  These make her who she is and bring her a false sense of worldly security.  Without them she feels of little worth.  Living beyond her means, she can never have enough.  She has chosen worldly abundance over spiritual living.

Matthew 6:21  “For where your treasure is, there will your heart be also.”
Standing next to Extreme is Materialism. The scriptures also have great warnings about this. She is covered in furs, fine clothing, and expensive jewelry. She knows she is beautiful. Her heart is filled with greed and the love of money. She puts temporal things above spiritual. She has no need for God. She has all she needs: fame, money, health, prosperity, and so forth. C. S. Lewis said, “Prosperity knits a man to the world. He feels that he is finding his place in it, while really it is finding its place in him” (The Screwtape Letters). God is an interruption to her. Her possessions make her feel worthwhile. Possessions make her feel important, always saving the best for herself.

You can never get enough of what you don't need. Never feeling satisfied always having to buy or get more. No matter what the cost, even if she can't afford it. The scriptures call it carnal security.
